Wood Species

Alder is one of the sodfter hardwoods. It has a smooth surface with very little grain showing and stains beautifully. Its color varies from white or tan to pale, pinkish brown, which can be accented when light stains are used. It’s an economical alternative to cherry because it is a plentiful and fast-growing species. It if fairly lightweight and may dent easily.

Cherry is considered by many to be top of the line among hardwoods. It’s light yet strong with fine to medium grain pattern that doesn’t necessarily need staining. It feels smooth to the touch, which makes it highly desirable for furniture and custom cabinetry in your home. Plus, it only gets better with age. The wood darkens, taking on an even richer, more elegant appearance over time.

Lyptus is a natural hybrid of two species of Eucalyptus. It grows in abundance in Brail and can be harvested in 14 to 16 years rather than 50 to 70 years for other hardwoods, which makes it rapidly renewable and environmentally friendly. It’s a very hard wood that has a fine grain and the look of mahogany.

Mahogany is often considered the premier wood for cabinetry. It’s a tropical hardwood known for its rich reddish-brown color that darkens over time. It has a straight, fine and even grain and tends to be free of imperfections, which makes it both beautiful and durable.

Maple is a hardwood known for its close, uniform grain. It comes in lighter shades that are generally more uniform than other hardwoods and look great with clear coat varnish. Maple has a smooth texture makes it an excellent choice for cabinetry and furniture.

Oak is one of the most popular woods for cabinetry. It comes in red and white varieties and is widely used for traditional, minimalistic cabinets in shaker and mission styles. It is heavy, hard, strong, and stiff with a prominent, open grain pattern that takes stain very well.

Walnut has been called the king of hardwoods and is prized for its use in fine furniture and cabinetry. It is a smooth-grained hardwood with a rich, warm color that spans from dark brown to purplish black. It lightens in color as it ages.
